Thiruvananthapuram: Renowned dubbing artiste Ambili died on Thursday battling cancer. She was 51.

Ambili, who was active in Malayalam and Tamil serials, has lent her voice to over 1,000 movies.

She was the lone on-screen voice for late actor Monisha in all her movies.

Ambilli, the third daughter of famous dubbing artiste and actor Pala Thankam, started her career with the Malayalam remake of Kannada movie 'Bhakta Kannappa' at the age of eight. She then went on to dub for child artistes in nearly 500 movies.

At the age of 13, she dubbed for the female lead in the iconic film Lorry, earning her recognition as a dubbing artiste par excellence.

Ambilli also lent her voice to actors Rohini, Ambika, Ranipadmini, Parvathy, Ranjini, Lissi, Sithara, Shari, Shobhana, Urvasi, Chippi, Sithara, Jomol, Priyaraman and Shalini.

She also wrote the script for various dubbed movies.

Ambili is survived by her husband and dubbing artist Chandramohan and daughters Vrinda and Vidya.
