Chengannur: Four more relief camps have been opened in the area as the flood waters are yet to recede in many places. There are now 3,064 people belonging to 716 families in the 23 relief camps. The new camps are at Keezhcherimel JBS in Chengannur town, Kuttiyil Bhagom in Sasthamkulangara and Kattil Bhagom in Puthenkavu.
Meanwhile, Saji Cheriyan MLA visited the camps at Mulakuzha, Venmony, Pandanad, Tiruvanwandoor, Chengannur municipality and Puliyoor.
When the camp at Thiruvanwandoor Govt. LP School also became inundated, the inmates were shifted to Thiruvanwandoor higher secondary school. Other arrangements for the flood-hit people include opening gruel centers at Nannad and Nannad West as well as relief camps in Illimala homoeopathic dispensary and WME Church in Pandanad. Camps are functioning at Mulakuzha higher secondary school, Kodamthuruthu colony and Thulakuzhi also.
After their houses were submerged, 36 families of Thulakuzhi were living in temporary shacks on the sides of the Chengannur – Neervilakom road. The people had even kept their cows and goats in the shacks.
Other camps are at Puliyoor Government Higher Secondary school and resettlement colony.
Eight houses were fully submerged at West Thuruthi and East Thuruthi after the water level rose in the Achenkovil river. Fifteen more house are waterlogged and residents have been shifted to West Thuruthi Aikyavedi Club.
