New Delhi: Delhi-based Keralite trade union leader A R Sindhu was on Sunday chosen to the CPM's central committee (CC).

A native of Pala in Kottayam district, Sindhu is the national general secretary of the All-India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers. She is the wife of former Sulthan Bathery MLA and All-India Kisan Sabha leader P Krishnaprasad.

The decision to accommodate Sindhu in the decision-making body is viewed as part of the party's move to increase women's presence in party forums. With Sindhu's election, the 95-member CC has 15 women members.

Ninety-four members were elected to the CC in the 22nd Party Congress held in Hyderabad.
