Ranni: The case of missing college student Jesna Mariya James has taken a critical turn after the police gathered that the message sent right before her mysterious disappearance was to a male friend and neighbour in Kollamula. She had had talked to him well over a 1,000 times, the special investigation team (SIT) said.
The SIT was also using body-sensing detectors at an under-construction house at Enthayar in Mundakkayam. Sources said the buildings being constructed by the missing girl's father were under the lens. They said the police team may even dismantle some of the structures to look for clues or, even worse, the body.
The district police chief, Pathanamthitta, T Narayanan told Manorama News on Wednesday that the police were not ruling out any possibility. He confirmed the finding of a blood-stained cloth from Jesna's home but refused to go into the specifics. The officer said cyber-forensic experts were on the case.
The male friend and neighbour was a classmate of Jesna, who was doing her degree course in Kanjirapally. As per information, Jesna had sent the message: 'I'm going to die' to him before she went missing on March 22.
Narayanan said the youth had been interrogated several times. “It will be repeated. He's not cooperating. We plan to put him through a lie-detector test for which we need his consent. We're trying for that now.”
The officer said all angles were being explored. “The police team had been to Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune and Goa. A search was still on in Mundakayam and Erumeli too. We are examining every available piece of information. The police are visiting most places linked to the probe to verify information,” he said.
The police, which received 50 letters in the information boxes placed for clues on Jesna, said seven of the letters had crucial information.
The Pathanamthitta district Congress committee staged a protest in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Jesna case. Leader of the opposition Ramesh Chennithala and Congress state chief M M Hassan attended.
Jesna's brother Jais John James and KSU state chief K M Abhijit had filed pleas in the High Court seeking a CBI probe. They allege that the police investigation was far from satisfactory.
