Kottayam: The district collector has declared a holiday on Wednesday for schools where the monsoon relief camps are functioning. A holiday has been announced for all educational institutions, except professional colleges, and Anganwadis in Arpookkara, Aymanam, Kumarakom and Thiruvarpu panchayats.
The relief camps have been opened at Kaipuzha SKV LPS, Punnathra St Joseph’s High School, Ayerkunnam GLPS and Manarkadu GUPS in Kottayam.
Meanwhile, the district collector of Palakkad has given a holiday for all educational institutions in Attappady on Wednesday. All academic institutions except professional colleges in Kuttanad taluk in Alappuzha will remain closed on Wednesday. All schools in Kuttanad will have a holiday on Thursday also.
Wednesday will be a holiday for schools and Anganwadis at Thiruvambadi and Kodenchery panchayats in Kozhikode district also. The area had witnessed a deluge during the recent rains.
Entry to Gavi, a major tourist spot in Pathanamthitta district, has been banned till June 20 in view of the heavy rain.
