Kottayam: A team of police surgeons will inspect the spot from where Kevin P Joseph's body was found to get clarity on the death of the Kottayam youth, an alleged victim of honour killing. The decision was taken on the basis of the post-mortem report during a meeting of the health department's medical board in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
Though a high-level team of police surgeons from the medical education department and the health department assessed the post-mortem report, they couldn’t reach a final conclusion on how Kevin died.
The post-mortem conducted at the Kottayam Medical College hospital had found that there were 16 cuts and bruises on Kevin's body. The police surgeons' team will seek to find if there was anything that could have caused the injuries on Kevin's body in the Chaliyakkara river at Thenmala, where his body was found, and nearby areas.
The findings of the police inquiry and the post-mortem say that Kevin drowned in the Chaliyakkara river while he was trying to escape from the gang of goons on May 27.
But doubts remain whether Kevin died after falling in the river while running at night or if he was beaten by the goons and dumped in the river in the belief that he had died.
Kottayam native Kevin's body was found in the Chaliyakkara river after he was abducted by the relatives of his fiancee, Neenu, who were against their love marriage.
Plea to cancel cops' bail
Kochi: A petition has been filed in the High Court by the government seeking to cancel the bail of cops who took bribe from Syanu Chacko, an accused in the Kevin murder case. The government is demanding the cancellation of the bail granted to ASI T M Biju and police driver M N Ajayakumar.
The government said in the petition that the magistrate court didn't examine the case diary and considered only irrelevant details to grant them bail. The court should have considered the seriousness of the case since it involved police personnel. The bail was counterproductive for the investigative agency, it said, while pointing out that the probe was on.
