Kottayam: Amal Mathew from Kuruppumthara has scored the 85th rank nationally and the first rank from Kerala in the JEE Advanced test for admission to graduate studies at Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT).

Amal did his higher secondary at Mannanam KE School and the entrance coaching at Brilliant Study Centre, Palai.
Fond of cricket, cinema and literature...
Amal is no book worm though winning ranks has become a routine for him. Fond of cricket, cinema and literature, he didn't sound quite decided when queried about his plans. "Let me see more of the world, then I will decide," he said with a smile.
Amal studied in Oman until class 10. Then he chose to study at Mannanam, considering the need for entrance coaching. He used to devote seven hours for studies on school days and 15 hours on holidays.
Amal says he prepared for the entrance exam duration by completing three question papers each every day, two weeks before the exam.
Currently, his father Mathew and brother Nirmal are in Oman.
IIT Kanpur had declared the results of Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2018 on Sunday. The examination was held on May 20 for 11,279 seats available at 23 IITs across the country.
