Kerala college girl Jesna still elusive as cops continue to grope in the dark

Jesna's siblings hope for the best and are eagerly awaiting a call or a credible lead.

Pathanamthitta: An extensive police search has yielded no result even 60 days after college student Jesna James of Kollamula went missing. Even as rumours about her fate abound, the mystery has only deepened.

Jesna, 23, a student of a reputed College in Kanjirapally, vanished on March 22 after she reportedly left her home to visit a kin at Mundakayam.

Meanwhile, Jesna's family as well as the police received some calls indicating she was spotted, but none have been of any use. Her father and two siblings hope for the best and are eagerly awaiting a call or a credible lead.

The probe is now focused on phone calls that were made during the hours Jesna went missing. But there had been no progress on this front either.

Jesna left home without telling her family where she was headed for. She had told a neighbour she would be travelling to her aunt's place, but did not specify which aunt and where. Her distressed family thinks she might have intended to visit her paternal aunt's house at Punchavayal as she was reportedly spotted on a bus at Mundakayam. The family had obtained and handed over to the police a visual from the CCTV of a bank at Kannimala, which shows Jesna sitting in a bus named Sivaganga. Kannimala is en route to Punchavayal. However, probe in this direction has hit a dead end.

Since Jesna wasn't carrying her cell phone, any effort to contact her on it or tracing the phone signals is meaningless.

The police even announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for any clue on Jesna. Many have responded, but no one had anything solid to offer.

The case has acquired a political dimension as former chief minister Oommen Chandy visited Jesna's house and Anto Antony MP aided in the search outside the state. A march, which was staged to the Vechoochira police station, was inaugurated by KPCC president M M Hassan.

Jesna in Bengaluru?

Reports that Jesna was spotted with a young man in Bengaluru had received much public attention. Anto Antony and the police probe team reached the spots where she was reported to have been found. The MP recorded an informer's narration and handed over visuals the latter had gave him to Jesna's family and the media.

Reports also said Jesna was confirmed to be in the Karnataka capital. The police team stayed on in Bengaluru for several days, but no clue was available. CCTV visuals at Nimhans and also at an ashram in Dharmaram were scanned thoroughly for days on. The Poovarani native, who reported sighting Jesna, was interrogated in detail. He stood firm in his claim, but there still was no clue about her.

One of the reports said the youth spotted with Jesna was from Thrissur. The police searched for him there, but in vain.
