The letter requesting for the parole was, in fact, written by MLA Pinarayi Vijayan, a resident of Kuthuparamba, from Kannur Central Jail on November 9, 1976, as he was incarcerated there during the Emergency.

The current Kerala chief minister's old parole letter is now on display at pavilion put up at the Kannur police ground as a part of the second anniversary celebrations of the LDF government in the state.
