BJP calls life threat to P Jayarajan a sham

The police report says Pranup, accused in the Valankichal Mohanan murder case, has been assigned the 'quotation' to eliminate Jayarajan.

Thalassery: The Bharatiya Janata Party( BJP), responding to the reports on police alerts on a life threat to Kannur Communist Party of India- Marxist(CPM) leader P Jayarajan, said that the entire matter a sham.

The BJP also alleged that the 'life threat' was an attempt to cover up the image loss suffered by the CPM in the Shuhaib murder case and glorify the controversial leader, an accused in several political crimes.

Party leader V Muraleedharan said that the news was a 'scripted drama'.

P Jayarajan refused to comment on the matter.

The district police chief in Kannur had earlier sent an emergency alert to all police stations under him to ensure heightened security for CPM district secretary P Jayarajan, after reports that the RSS-BJP leadership has hired goons to finish him off.

The police report says Pranup, accused in the Valankichal Mohanan murder case, has been assigned the 'quotation' to eliminate Jayarajan.

It also says that the move is to avenge the murder of Kathiroor Manoj and Ramith from Dharmadam, Kannur.

The police chief's circular orders all police stations to beef up security at all events attended by the CPM leader.

As of now, two police gunmen have been assigned for his security. Additional gunmen will be sought for him, considering the threat.

Jayarajan is in Thiruvananthapuram to attend the party's state committee meeting. The police said he will be provided with greater security once he returns to Kannur.
