Latvian woman tourist goes missing from Kerala capital

Latvian nationals Ilsi and Leega, who was reported to be missing.

Thiruvananthapuram: One of the two foreign sisters, who had come to the Kerala capital for Ayurveda treatment, has gone missing. Latvia native Ilsi has been unsuccessfully looking for her sister Leega, 33, for the past four days. The police, too, are clueless.

Leega, who is suffering from severe depression, had left the Ayurveda treatment centre at Pothencode without taking any travel documents or money. An auto driver had told cops that he took her to Kovalam, but the police couldn’t find her there too.

The Latvian sisters had arrived at the Dharma Ayurveda Healing Centre for treatment and yoga classes. They had reached Pothencode after spending 10 days in Varkala.

On Wednesday morning, Ilsi went to the yoga class from their room, while Leega went out for buying provisions.

When Ilsi returned to the room after an hour, Leega was missing. Ilsi said that Leega was reclusive, does not interact with others much and suffers from enochlophobia (afraid of crowds). Ilsi said that it was suspicious that her sister hasn't taken her mobile phone, money or passport.

Though they both are Latvian nationals, the sisters have been living in Ireland for long. Leega works in a hotel and Ilsi is a beautician. Ilsi plans to seek the help of the Latvian embassy. Ph: 9947224900
