Justice Sreedevi passes away

Sreedevi, who had been suffering from liver ailments, was staying with her son Adv Basant Balaji at his Kaloor residence and breathed her last here early Monday morning.

Kochi: Former judge of Kerala High Court and former chairperson of Kerala Women's Commission, justice D Sreedevi, 79, died here Monday.

Sreedevi, who had been suffering from liver ailments, was staying with her son Adv Basant Balaji at his Kaloor residence and breathed her last here early Monday morning.

The last rites will be held at the Ravipuram crematorium at 5 pm on Monday, her relatives said.

Justice Sreedevi was born in Chirayinkeezhu in Thiruvananthapuram and started her career as an advocate in 1962.

In 1984 she was appointed the district sessions judge and started her stint at the High Court in 1997. She retired from the Kerala High Court in 2001 and later took on the mantle of the chairperson, Kerala State Women's Commission till 2002.

She returned to lead the Kerala State Women's Commission in 2007 and stayed on till 2012.
