Kochi: Main accused in the February 17 actress assault case Pulsar Suni on Wednesday said that those with deep pockets would escape, hinting that the real culprits in the case were yet to be booked.
"Those with money power would escape, while I would be left to languish in jail," Suni told reporters while he was being taken away from the Angamaly magistrate court.
Suni was taken to the court after the judge ordered that all accused be present in court while delivering the verdict in popular Malayalam actor Dileep's plea, seeking visuals of the actress attack. However, it was not known whether Dileep, eighth accused in the case, was present during the hearing on Wednesday.
The police had arrested Pulsar Suni six days after the crime on February 17. He has been giving hints at the involvement of other people in the case every time he faced TV cameras.
Soon after Suni's statement that 'sharks were yet to be caught', the police had arrested Dileep on July 10 for hatching the conspiracy. Dileep had denied having any links with Suni. The criminal had also talked about the role of a 'VIP from Aluva'.
The Angamaly magistrate court refused to hand over the video footage of the crime to Dileep on the ground that it could be misused and the privacy of the actress had to be protected.
The trial court in December 2017 had accepted the charge sheet that named 12 persons, including Dileep, as accused and his former wife Manju Warrier as a witness. The 650-page charge sheet included secret depositions. Among the list of witnesses, around 50 are from the film industry.
Dileep, who was arrested on July 10, 2017, got a conditional bail after 85 days in jail.
With the trial all set to commence shortly, Dileep was given over 700 pieces of evidence in the case, which included pictures and visuals. However, the video of the sexual assault was not given, but his counsel was allowed to view it.
