Chennai: A former CBI officer on Wednesday ruled out the involvement of spy agencies in the ISRO espionage case that rocked Kerala in the 90s.
Dr PM Nair said he never felt, at any stage of the investigation, that the American spy agency, CIA, or officers of India's Intelligence Bureau were involved in the case. He also dismissed any political conspiracy behind the case.
Nair asserted that neither former prime minister Narasimha Rao nor his son were linked to the case. “Anyone can still approach the court if there is evidence. Some vested interests opposed the case going to the Supreme Court,” he told Manorama News on Wednesday.
He said action should be taken against (Kerala police) officers who tortured scientist Nambi Narayanan and others to 'cook up' evidence in the case.
“Those who made Nambi Narayanan suffer like this should be brought to book. He and the other accused would have been in jail for at least 14 years if the case had not been entrusted to the CBI,” he said.
Former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, who faced the espionage case in 1994 and had to spend close to two months in jail before being discharged, had on Tuesday demanded a fresh probe to find out who 'fabricated' the case.
