Thiruvananthapuram: A proposal has been mooted in a top-level meeting to raise the minimum marks in engineering entrance exam from 10 to 20.
It was also proposed at a meeting for prospectus revision that no compensation should be levied from those who leave the college after the academic year commences.
At the same time, worries have been raised on whether the entrance exam itself will stand legal scrutiny, as the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) rules do not specify entrance exams this year.
It is for the cabinet to take a final decision on the proposals at the meeting which was called by Usha Titus, secretary, department of higher education.
The recommendation of the meeting is that the minimum marks of 10, stipulated for each paper to qualify for a place in the engineering rank list, should be raised to 20.
It was also suggested that the condition could be eased if B.Tech seats remain vacant.
Those who join a course but leave after the academic year commences should be charged only a processing fee of Rs1,000.
If they leave after the classes start, there is no need to refund the remitted fees.
