Thodupuzha: This medical shop used abortion tablets for an overkill - the outlet was selling the pills costing Rs 384 at Rs 10,000. The Drugs Control Department, during a raid, found that the medical shop also sold prescription drugs, mostly sedative syrups and tablets, illegally at huge prices.

The department raided the outlet at Thodupuzha Gandhi Square after a Manorama News report that prescription drugs were being sold wantonly over the counter. The report carried surveillance camera visuals too.

Idukki drugs controller Martin Joseph said extensive violations were found in the primary search and he had recommended closure of the shop.

Abortion tablets, medicines for treatment of sexual inadequacies, syrups with high sedative content etc were being sold at prices as high as 50 times the original. Such medicines were stored without documentation. Sources said the shop had faced action in the past too.
