Chalakudy murder: main accused, accomplice arrested

Johny (L) was arrested in connection with the murder of real estate dealer Rajeev in Chalakudy

Thrissur: The Kerala police have arrested the main accused in the case relating to the murder of a real estate dealer in Chalakudy. Johny (Chakkara Johny) and his accomplice Ranjith were arrested from Palakkad Sunday night. Earlier, there were reports that Johny could have fled the country.

Rajeev, the real estate broker, was found murdered in an abandoned building at Pariyaram. The police arrested three suspects on Friday and said the trio strangled Rajeevan after an altercation related to a property deal. The trio wanted the broker to return the money they had given as an advance payment, the police said.

However, in a major development in the case Saturday, prominent advocate C.P. Udayabhanu came under the police scanner because Rajeevan had written to the director general of police that he faced a threat to his life from the advocate. However, the lawyer said that fabricated allegations were made against him.
