Dileep cost me many a film opportunity: Anoop Chandran to SIT

Malayalam actor Anoop Chandran

Kochi: After a brief lull, more film personalities have raised their voice against embattled actor Dileep, who was arrested for plotting the February 17 attack on the actress.

Malayalam actor Anoop Chandran has given statements against Dileep to the special investigation team (SIT) probing the heinous crime, Manorama News reported Monday.

"I lost many film opportunities because of Dileep. I was literally shunted out," Anoop Chandran said.

The actor said his comment against mimicry was what caused Dileep to turn against him.

Many prominent film personalities including director Vinayan and producer Liberty Basheer had raised serious allegations against the actor soon after his much-publicized arrest on July 10. However, more recently, people from the industry have been coming out in support of the actor. Many, inclduing actor Sreenivasan and Ganesh Kumar, MLA, had issued pro-Dileep statements. However, Sreenivasan's house in Kannur was attacked and police had moved against Ganesh Kumar for making such statements. The cops said that pro-Dileep statements could mislead the investigation and influence the witnesses.

The young actress was abducted and assaulted in a moving car in Kochi on February 17. The police had arrested Pulsar Suni, who had worked as a driver of many film personalities, six days after the incident. A letter which Pulsar Suni purportedly wrote to actor Dileep had caused a furore.

Dileep had undergone a marathon 13-hour grilling at the Aluva police club days ahead of his arrest. The actor had approached the police saying that the prime accused tried to blackmail him from jail. Things went awry for Dileep after the police found discrepancies in his statements.
