Practice what you preach: this Kerala IAS official rolled up his sleeves to change a flat tyre

Rajamanickam, who is also a post graduate in Mechanical Engineering, rolled up his sleeves without any hesitation and lent a hand.

Thiruvananthapuram: When the KSRTC chairman and managing director (chief) M.G. Rajamanickam exhorted the employees to unite and work hard to save the ailing public sector transport corporation, they never expected the chief himself to pull that extra weight. But the employees got a practical lesson, when the CMD sweat it out on the road to change the flattened tyre of a KSRTC bus.

The incident took place Thursday afternoon near Anayara in Thiruvananthapuram. Rajamanickam was returning after completing an inspection at the KSRTC depot in Anayara. On the way, he saw a bus making a pit stop due to a flat tyre. Seeing this, the senior IAS official ordered his car driver to pull over and he checked the bus. He also ordered to bring the breakdown van immediately to the spot.

When the mechanical hands of the KSRTC arrived and started their work, the CMD, who is also a post graduate in mechanical engineering, rolled up his sleeves without any hesitation and lent a hand. The bus resumed service in about 15 minutes.

Later, Rajamanickam said there were machines that help to change the tyres easily and a few of these would reach the KSRTC shortly.
