Kochi: The Kerala police have recorded the statements of an actress who escaped an abduction attempt by Pulsar Suni and gang in Kochi in 2011. The police registered a case into the six-year-old incident after Suni was arrested for waylaying a younger actress and torturing her in a moving car near Angamaly on February 17.

The police recorded the arrest of Suni, who is already in the Kakkanad jail as the first accused in the latest abduction and assault case. The police arrested actor Dileep July 10 for plotting the attack. He had offered Rs 1.5 crore to Suni for torturing his former colleague and videotaping her suffering, the police said.

Pulsar Suni tried to kidnap another actress in 2011, fresh case registered

Investigation into the high-profile case has brought to the fore the antecedents of the accused. Suni had planned to abduct at least three actresses earlier. The Ernakulam central police registered a case on Sunday into the 2011 abduction attempt.

The case was registered on an earlier complaint by producer Johny Sagarika, who had employed Suni as a driver at the time of the incident, assistant commissioner K Lalji said.

The actress corroborated Johny’s statements when the police spoke to her in her residence in Thiruvananthapuram.

4 people in custody

The police have taken into custody four people in connection with the 2011 abduction bid. Kannur natives Suneesh, Ashraf, and Kothanagmalam natives Ebin and Vipin were the detained.

Suni had planned to kidnap a young actress when she reached Ernakulam for a movie shoot but things did not go as he thought.

As the producer’s driver, Suni knew that the actress and a senior actress were to come to the Ernakulam railway station. Suni got an accomplice to meet Johny. He told the producer that he represented a luxury hotel and he could get rooms for actors at discounted rates. He even offered to pick the actors and actresses from the railway station. Johny agreed.

A driver and another member of the gang waited at the station but the younger actress did not turn up. The gang picked the other actress and an aide. The aide was dropped at Kumbalam. The actress grew suspicious when the vehicle started going in circles in the city. She called up her husband, a producer, who informed Johny in turn.

Johny immediately went to the hotel but he was told that no booking was done there. Suni was with Johny all the time.

The gang members sensed that their plan had gone awry. They drove the van to the hotel and scooted.

Suni was already wanted in a mugging case in Kottayam when he planned the audacious highway attack in February.
