Four fishermen go missing near Banasura Sagar Dam

Kalpetta: Four persons are feared to have drowned after the coracle, in which they were fishing near Banasura Sagar dam in the district, capsized due to bad weather on Sunday. Three others swam to safety, the police said.

Kozhikode natives Sachin, 20; Binu, 42; Melwin, 34; and localite Wilson were reported missing since Sunday night.

Police said the seven persons set out for fishing without obtaining permission and the boat started capsizing around 11.30 pm on Sunday.

Police on being informed rushed to the spot and launched a search for the missing persons, but called it off for the day due to bad light. The search resume on Tuesday, they said.

The services of naval divers have been requisitioned and they are expected to arrive here Tuesday, police said.
