Man who abducted teen girl from Kochi arrested in UP

Kochi: A man who allegedly abducted a 15-year-old girl from Kochi has been arrested from Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, police said Wednesday.

'Lucky' Sharma alias Mahesh Sharma from Rajasthan was arrested Wednesday evening by a team of Kochi city police after releasing the girl from his captivity.

He had allegedly sought a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from the girl's parents to release her.

Sharma also threatened her parents, saying the girl would be sold in the sex trade if the ransom was not paid, police said. Wednesday was the deadline set by him to pay the amount.

He was arrested from Noida after his movements were tracked with the help of cyber cell police.

The girl's family, who is from Uttar Pradesh, has been staying in Vaduthala in Kochi for the past 10 years, the police said.

Sharma got in touch with the girl through Facebook, introducing himself as a film producer.

He abducted the girl promising her a role in a Hindi movie, police said.

After taking her to Uttar Pradesh, Sharma telephoned the girl's parents and sought ransom for releasing her.
