New Delhi: The mortal remains of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh were brought to his residence on Thursday night and will be kept for the public to pay their respects.
The 92-year-old leader, who served two terms as prime minister, passed away on Thursday night at AIIMS Delhi after being admitted earlier in the evening. Doctors at the hospital embalmed the body before it was transported.
Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal told the media that Dr Manmohan Singh's funeral will take place on Saturday in Delhi with full state honours. His mortal remains will also be placed at the AICC headquarters for public homage.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi visited Dr Singh’s residence on Thursday night to pay their tributes.
Both leaders, who were in Belagavi for the CWC meeting, returned to Delhi immediately upon receiving news of his demise, reported PTI.
