New Delhi: The Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has granted permission to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prosecute Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case related to the excise policy. It was on December 5, that the ED approached the LG seeking permission to prosecute the former Chief Minister. The LG has taken the move a few days after AAP announced Kejriwal's candidacy in the upcoming assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the AAP has dismissed it as "false and misleading" and has urged the ED to provide a copy of the sanction issued by the LG.
On Friday, the Delhi High Court allowed the ED to take additional time to submit its reply to a petition filed by AAP leaders Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. The duo approached the HC challenging the trial court's order taking cognisance of a chargesheet filed in the money laundering case. The court will resume hearing into the case on February 5.
Kejriwal was walked out of jail on September 13 after obtaining bail from the Supreme Court in the case related to the excise policy registered by the CBI. According to the CBI and the ED, irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy and undue favours were extended to the licence holders.
