New Delhi: The BJP on Tuesday announced singer Hans Raj Hans' candidature from North-West Delhi, hours before the deadline for filing of nomination.
Udit Raj, the incumbent MP from North-West, had threatened to resign and contest as an independent if his candidature was not announced from the seat.
This was one of the reasons behind the delay in announcing Hans' candidature, party insiders said.
Hans will take on Guggan Singh of the AAP and Rajesh Lilothia of the Congress.
Three-time chief minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit, will take the charge again for Congress and contest the Lok Sabha election from North East Delhi. The party released a list of six candidates on Monday.
The Delhi Congress chief will contest from the parliamentary constituency of North East Delhi while her predecessor in the state unit, Ajay Maken, is the candidate from the New Delhi parliamentary constituency.
There were talks of alliance between the AAP and the Congress failed as the Rahul Gandhi-led party wanted a tie up only in Delhi while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wanted the alliance to be forged in Haryana as well. They eventually went seperated ways and turned Delhi into a three-way contest.
The other stars contesting from Delhi include popular Bhojpuri actor and singer from Bihar, Manoj Tiwari for SP-BJP in North East Delhi, and actor-producer Rajesh Khanna for the Congress.
