A south Indian couple separated recently as the man had complaints regarding his wife's looks. Alleging that she was overweight, he didn't even allow her to walk along with him. Both the spouses were well educated and employed. Their tiff became a regular affair and reached the family court, ending in divorce.

At the same time, there are people who admit that when they seek a match looking for family background and financial status, they often ignore physical attributes only to repent later. They think about it only when they begin to start living together. They are also influenced by the viewpoints of society.

"These days teenagers need sexual education and the youth need pre-marriage and post-marriage counselling. The new generation should be aware that marriages of people belonging to the older generation lasted long because they were willing to make compromises," said Prema Menon, a lawyer.
