Tata's Tigor has got a makeover. Tigor Refresh. Compared to the old model, Tata has given the new Tigor some cosmetic changes as well as new features but without increasing the price tag.
Stylish back
Tigor is known as styleback. What is a styleback? Well, it is nothing but a car with a stylish back! No other car has such a beautiful back today. It essentially resembles a notchback. In notchbacks the rear windscreen lifts up with the lid but in Tigor the boot opens like a sedan.
Premium?
Tigor resembles some of the pricier luxury cars in looks. Though it is nowhere closer in terms of size, the resemblance of Tigor to some Volvo models can’t be written off. If you combine youthfulness, sportiness, style, beauty, uniqueness and compactness, and bring it to the rear of a car, you get Tigor. The new Tigor has better finish and comes in a new colour, Egyptian blue, while other colours on offer include Roman silver, espresso brown, berry red, pearlescent white and titanium grey.
Like a kite
Tata Tigor took birth from the same Kite project that gave birth to Tata Tiago. It was first displayed at the auto expo in 2016. But the prototype that was on display then was not this beautiful. The main difference with the production version has been its stylish back.
Not so small
Tigor is not a small car. Besides, Tata is not calling Tigor a small sedan. That is because Tigor has much more styling, features, connectivity and drivability than bigger sedans.
Youthfulness
Tigor is stylish in all departments, including looks. Its lively and dynamic stance also exudes the feeling of youthfulness. The design of Tigor is clearly aimed at young executives and families.
Freshness
From the front to the backdoor, Tigor is same as Tiago. From the backdoor to the rear, it is new. The facelifted version has got new grille and black tinted headlamps. If the petrol variant has 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, the diesel comes without it. Instead, the variants with oil burners get an ordinary 14-inch alloy. The top mounted taillamp also serves as the spoiler.
Fit & finish
Fit and finish are identical to Tiago. The titanium coloured leather seats are new. It also gets a slightly updated dashboard finished in premium dual black and grey colour scheme. The AC vents now get body-coloured inserts. The seats are big and there are 22 storage spaces inside. There are hooks to hang shopping bags. The boot can accommodate 419 litres of luggage, which makes it the segment leader in terms of boot size. Tata has achieved this by using a hydraulic arm instead of conventional hinges to open and close the boot.
Harman
Tigor can boast of an eight-speaker Harman music system that even big cars do not have these days. Tata offers an app-based navigation system on Tigor that can be used via mobile phone. Tigor’s Harman-sourced touchscreen infotainment system gets Juke Car App, which is used for creating multiple playlists, Bluetooth based remote control and Tata Emergency Assist App that shares co-ordinates of the vehicle with emergency contacts.
Driving
The 1047 cc Revotorq diesel CRDI engine churns out 70 ps of peak power. The motor boasts of new tech that minimizes frictional losses. The vibrations and harshness of the three-cylinder engine has been reduced a lot. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine produces 85 ps of peak power.
Driving modes
Driving modes that are usually present in luxury cars are offered in Tigor. There are two driving modes - city and eco. If you want higher fuel efficiency, choose the eco mode. If you want better performance, you can shift to city mode. In the city mode, gear changes too can be kept to a minimum. The pedals are light, and steering is responsive.
