Vaikom: Thirst for adventure is a rare trait. And those who have it display it from a very young age. That is where six-year-old Aadi D Nair assumes significance as she is all set to swim across Vembanad Lake on Saturday. Aadi will attempt to swim the 7-kilometre stretch from Ambalakadavu North in Alappuzha district to Vaikom Beach in Kottayam district.
A class I student at Karukadom St. Mary's Public School, Aadi is the daughter of Dipu and Anjana from Kothamangalam Mathirappilly Pallippady Shastha Mangalath. Her goal is to secure a place in the World Wide Book of Records.
The current record stands at a distance of 4.5 kilometres. Aadi, who trained under the coach and world record holder Biju Thankappan, took up the challenge of swimming across the lake after showcasing remarkable progress in swimming within just six months. Her experience training in the strong currents of the Muvattupuzha River has equipped her for this endeavour.
Aadi will be supported by the Kothamangalam Dolphin Aquatic Club and St. Mary's Public School. She is the 19th person to attempt this feat under the leadership of the Kothamangalam Dolphin Aquatic Club. Program Coordinator Shihab K. Sainu expressed confidence that Aadi will complete the swim within one and a half hours if weather conditions remain favourable.
