Breaking the myth that riding a Bullet motorcycle is the exclusive privilege of men, a group of women led by Thiruvananthapuram-based Shiny Rajkumar formed a club named 'Dauntless Royal Explorers' (DRE) in 2016.
Over the last three years, the club has inspired women to gain confidence and set out on journeys, apart from riding the Bullet. Meanwhile, after expanding the activities of the club to all parts of Kerala, the organisers are planning to make their mark at the national level also.
The club members have already attracted attention by arriving in Bullet motorcycles wearing sarees at 'Rider Mania,' a festival of Royal Enfield fans.
Shiny says that after she started taking the Bullet out on the roads, several young women had approached her with the request of coaching them bike riding. "That inspired me to set up the club, which has turned out to be a big success," says Shiny.
No wonder, a growing number of young women are contacting Shiny after purchasing a Bullet motorcycle. They are rewarded with guidance as well as confidence to travel to any part of the world on a two-wheeler.
However, DRE is no ordinary travel group. Its members participate in several community and social activities, too. They are even involved in some government programmes and missions.
DRE's next plan is to ride to the next edition of Rider Mania wearing Kerala's traditional attire, 'settu saree.'
