Kasaragod: The women of the Kudumbashree Mission are all set to serve delicious lunch at offices and firms.
The members of the Annapurna catering unit at Chemmanadu panchayat will now distribute packed lunch for people at their work places. This venture is headed by four homemakers who are members of the catering unit. It functions under the Kudumbashree unit named 'Pulari.'
Lunch consists of hot rice, sambar, fish curry, stir-fry (thoran), pickle and pachadi. It will be packed in steel lunch boxes and delivered at the respective offices. This would cost Rs 40, and if 'specials' like fish fry or chicken are ordered then the rate would go up a bit. Customers would be served either raw rice or parboiled rice as per their preferences. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes are included in their menu.
Lunch would be distributed at the various offices and shops between 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm.
Kudumbasree members T Sharada, K Syamala, K Lakshmi and K Sreeja said that the lunch boxes would be collected back by evening. They started this venture with personal investments to buy vessels worth Rs 60,000 and a van to distribute the lunch boxes.
They said that the rest of the amount required to run the business would be loaned by the Kudumbasree Mission.
A larger and famed similar service on this lines is run by the dabbawalas of Mumbai. They serve hot lunches made at homes and restaurants to people at workplaces across Mumbai.
