Sabarimala: The Devaswom board provides chukkavellam (water boiled with dried ginger) and biscuits at Sannidhanam, offering comfort to the devotees who are tired after the strenuous climb. Most devotees reach the Sannidhanam without carrying bottled drinking water as it is a plastic free zone. So, the Devaswom board has made the arrangement to provide hot drinking water here. The water is boiled using three boilers of 15,000 litres each. Meanwhile, the installation of the fourth boiler is progressing.
Devotees can collect drinking water from the taps that are fixed at 20 spots from Sharamkuthy to the end of the queue complex using newly laid pipe lines. Besides, arrangements have been made to distribute drinking water to the devotees who stand in the queues where the nadapandal ends. Five trolleys are used to distribute chukka vellam here for 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 607 workers have been appointed on three shifts for distributing drinking water from Appachimedu to Sannidhanam. Devotees could buy steel bottles by depositing Rs 100. This would be refunded when they return the bottles after the darshan. Arrangements have also been made to supply water to those who wish to collect chukku vellam before they begin the climb. While Kerala devotees might be familiar with 'chukkuvellam,' it can be a novel drink for many, especially those from outside the state. Here's why this healthy drink can help you during the Sabarimala ascent or even otherwise.
