After four days, superstar Rajinikanth was released from Chennai's Appollo Hospital at 11 pm on October 3. The hospital statement said that he was admitted on September 30 with a swelling in his main blood vessel aka aorta. As per reports, he was admitted after experiencing severe digestive distress. The hospital explained that the actor was treated by a non-surgical transcatheter method and an endovascular repair surgery to place a stent in his blood vessel to seal the swelling. Meanwhile, what could have caused the aortic swelling that caused him discomfort?

What caused the condition?
An aortic swelling or aneurysm is a bulge on the blood vessel wall. They generally form on weak areas of the artery wall and can burst if not treated. The rupture can be life-threatening, too, as it can cause internal bleeding, which can disrupt blood flow to various organs. The condition, according to the Cleveland Clinic, generally occurs in people who are over the age of 65, are into smoking, have a history of the condition and have high blood pressure. It's also mostly seen in men. Narrowing and inflammation of arteries, injury to an aorta, infections like syphilis and inherited health conditions can also cause aortic aneurysm.

Symptoms of aortic swelling
1) Lightheadedness
2) Increasing heart rate
3) Sudden abdominal pain, back pain or chest pain
4) Shortness of breath
5) Feeling full after a small meal
6) Difficulty in swallowing
7) Swelling on neck, arms or face.
Rajinikanth's multi-starrer film Vettaiyan, directed by Njanavel and starring Manju Warrier, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Ritika Singh, and Dushara in the main roles, will be released on October 10.
