For the past few months, Bigg Boss fame actress Hina Khan has been battling stage three breast cancer, and she has been quite open about her condition as well on social media. Recently, she revealed she was diagnosed with 'Mucositis.' The actress said it is a side effect of chemotherapy, and she can't eat anything. She requested her followers to share with her any useful remedies for the same. According to the Cleveland Clinic, Mucositis is an inflammation that affects the lining of your mouth and gastrointestinal tract, and it's a common side effect of cancer treatments. "It temporarily heals on its own but can be painful and carries certain risks. It requires self-care and medical care to manage," says the Cleveland Clinic.
How to handle the pain
Applying medicines or other topical agents in your mouth or affected areas apparently does not have a lasting effect if you are affected by Mucositis. A combination of mouthwashes, gels, pain medications and even opioids are used to handle the condition. Additional care is required to reduce discomfort and protect your mouth from infection and irritation, as even normal activities like swallowing, speaking or chewing can cause further pain. Those affected by Mucositis are generally advised to have gentle foods on their mouths and internal organs, alongside maintaining hygiene. They should also gently brush and floss their teeth, rinse their mouths at least six times daily, and have regular hydration to compensate for dry mouth.
