A dairy product made with milk fermented by bacterial cultures, yoghurt is a superfood loaded with probiotics, protein, calcium, vitamins, fats and carbs. Plain or Greek yoghurt is considered its most nutritious variety, as compared to the more popular flavoured yoghurts. Depending on whether the milk used is low fat, skimmed or whole, the yoghurt's texture can either be creamy, thick or even grainy. While its benefits are manifold, yoghurt can also cause indigestion, acid reflux and bloating when paired with certain foods. Onions/ shallots
Raita made with onions and yoghurt may be refreshing and delicious, but it is not a healthy combination according to experts. Yoghurt is a cold food while onions increase body temperature. So, the combination of hot and cold food can lead to digestive issues, bloating and stomach aches.
Mangoes
Mango lassi, parfait, smoothies, popsicles, raita, there is no end to the number of delicacies made with mangoes and yoghurt. However, the combination can also create an imbalance in the body’s pH levels and result in skin issues like eczema and red spots in some people. The sourness of mango when combined with the acidic nature of yoghurt is a factor that can potentially cause an imbalance of pH levels. Besides, the hot nature of mango doesn’t go well with the cold yoghurt. The body may produce toxins when these food items are eaten together.
Fish
Kebabs, curries and even biryanis are prepared with the fix–yoghurt combo. But, according to nutrition experts, two sources of protein shouldn’t be consumed together. The high protein levels in both fish and yoghurt may make digestion difficult. This would then cause bloating and stomach ache among other problems in some people.
Fruits
Most fruits contain fructose while milk is a great source of protein. Doctors often advise against combining milk and fruits. Moreover, eating fruits with yoghurt may lead to heartburn, bloating and stomach pain. Milkshakes with fruits may be delicious; but, your stomach may not be thanking you for that.
Fried food
Yoghurt shouldn’t be eaten with deep-fried food and snacks as it may cause indigestion. Digestion slows down when yoghurt is consumed with oily food. Moreover, it can cause heartburn too. However, the probiotics in low–fat yoghurt may improve digestion.
