Can your teeth corrode to this extent at the age of 18? Blame it on the excessive use of carbonated drinks. That’s what happened to Maldives resident Fathima Rooha who is only 18. From the age of 15, Fathima has been going to various dentists to get her teeth fixed but to no avail. Doctors were of the opinion that there was no other option than to remove her teeth completely as a treatment.
But Fathima and her family were reluctant to use artificial teeth sets at such a young age. For the last three years, Fathima was in search of a teeth restoration treatment. During her yearly visits to India, she visited several hospitals in search of this treatment. Since her teeth had corroded, Fathima was wearing dentures.
It was during her yearly visit to India that Fatima unexpectedly arrived at Dr. Vishnu's Multi-Specialty Dental Clinic at Perurkada in Thiruvananthapuram. Dr. Vishnu told Manorama Online that considering the age of the child, they were wondering if it was possible to do the treatment by retaining the teeth. Then they realised that the roots of her teeth are of good length and only the biting part was missing. With this, it was informed that Fathima’s wish could be granted.
Soon the team consisting of Dr. G Nelson and Dr. Sujeesh Kuruvila Joy started the treatment under the leadership of Dr. Vishnu. The roots were extended and made like a tooth and the rest of the treatments were done to make the upper and lower teeth permanent. After completing 5 treatments within a month, Fatima happily returned to the Maldives. Dr. Vishnu also assured her that he has made arrangements to conduct the once in 6 months follow-up tests in Maldives.
