Consuming raw food has become a norm in several new age diets and nutrition regimes. To have raw or uncooked food are considered to be rich in fiber and other essential nutrients. The raw food that is known for its low calorie intake is the latest trend in the diet and nutrition arena. It is said that the nutrients in the foods, especially vegetables, are lost when they are cooked. However, the Ayurveda states that it is not healthy to consume several food items in its raw state. Fruits, nuts and salads could be eaten raw; but there are some other foods that have to be cooked before consuming them.
As per Ayurveda, eating cooked foods help in maintaining the well being of the body in two vital ways. Consuming hot food would increase the blood flow in the body. Besides, it is easier to digest cooked food. The nutrients from the cooked food are easily absorbed by the body than the raw food. Not just the ayurveda, but many modern researches too reveal the significance of consuming cooked food. Regular consumption of raw food items may cause a condition called the irritable bowel syndrome.
The weather too plays a pivotal role in determining the food habits. It is difficult for the body to digest food during the winter than in summer. So, during the winter season, even if you are having a regular salad, make sure that you heat it up a bit or saute it lightly. Similarly, eating raw vegetables during the rainy season increases the risk of bacterial infection. So, it is better to have cooked food or hot meals when it rains.
