Sweating is a natural process, but it may lead to several serious health issues. One of the main functions of the skin is to retain the body temperature at 37 degrees Celsius.
When this temperature rises, the sweat glands produce sweat in order to prevent various problems the body may face. However, excess sweating may also cause several diseases. In some cases, it is also a symptom of other illnesses like mental tension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, heart disease, damage to the nervous system, cancer and side effects of certain drugs.
In addition, excessive sweating may occur among pregnant women, women who have reached menopause and obese people.
Take care of your food intake
Experts advise people suffering from excessive sweating to drink at least two to three litres of water a day. This can include salted rice gruel, lemon juice and buttermilk. Consumption of fruits and vegetables with high water content should be increased, while food items which are hot and spicy need to be avoided altogether.
Moreover, working under the sun between 11 am and 3 pm should not be resorted to. Taking a bath two times a day will cool down the body and reduce sweat. Always wear loose clothes made of cotton that are of light shades.
Reduce the odour of sweat
The sweat produced by our body has no smell. But a bacteria present on the skin acts on the sweat and produces some chemicals, which cause the nauseating odour. Another reason for body odour is the pheromones from the apocrine glands in the armpit and private parts.
The solution
By using talcum powder that absorbs sweat, the problem can be solved to some extent. Anti-fungal powder has to be preferred by people suffering from fungal infection. As bacteria grow in the hair of the armpits, hair has to be shaved off from there at regular intervals.
Reducing intake of onion, garlic and liquor will help matters. Anti-perspirant spray, anti-bacterial soap and cream are beneficial.
Doctor’s opinion can be sought by people having excess sweating in the armpit, hand or soles of the feet. Based on the doctor’s opinion, Aluminium chloride hexahydrate lotion or spray can be used.
