Boby and Dhanya share their experience of building a unique house in a difficult mountainous terrain. It was quite unexpectedly that the couple purchased this plot in the beautiful countryside of Chundale in Wayanad, Kerala. The plot is on a hill slope filled with sturdy rocks. From here, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the spectacular mountains. However, it was quite challenging to build a double-storey house on a slope with rocky terrain.
Sandwich panels have been used on the roof to reduce the heat inside the house. Meanwhile, the interiors designed in the rustic theme do not feature any brighter hues. The walls of this house exude the mesmerizing charm of classic wood and earthy tones of mud. The mud plastering makes the walls stronger and grants a delightful rustic look.
The open panelling in the interiors makes the spaces look incredibly vaster. Designed in 1600 sqft, this fabulous abode has a living area, dining space, two bedrooms, bathroom and a balcony.
The full-length sliding glass window on one side of the living area opens to a quaint balcony from where you could enjoy the cool breeze and the mesmerizing views of the surrounding nature.
Meanwhile, the steel staircase is sturdy and classy. The roof of the stair area has a glass panelling which brings oodles of natural light into the house.
The family wasn’t interested in splurging exorbitant amount for furnishing. So, they relied mostly on natural items to add glamour and charm to their house. The root of a tree has been treated and used as dining table here. Meanwhile, the glass top adds the perfect sheen to the rustic themed dining table.
There are only two bedrooms in this house as the owners preferred more common spaces than private areas. The bedrooms are spacious and have all the facilities. Meanwhile, the bedroom on the upper floor has glass walls that opens to the spacious balcony.
The interiors with ample supply of natural air and mud plastered walls feel cool and cosy even during noon when the sun is harsh. The family too is happy spending time inside the house that exudes positivity.
