The smell of damp clothes often fills the rooms in your homes during monsoon. The clothes smell damp when they are not dried properly under the sun. You might notice the damp smell only when you take the clothes out of the cupboard for wearing them. Although these clothes look dry, the delicate threads would still be damp which leads to foul smell.
The clothes that have absorbed too much sweat may smell foul even after it is washed. Besides, they may smell bad if there isn’t proper air circulation inside the cupboards and cabinets. You could keep the washed clothes fresh and clean if you follow these hacks.
Wash immediately
Most people keep the sweaty clothes aside for washing it later. However, clothes that are soaked in sweat or are wet should be washed immediately. The threads on the clothes may absorb the odour of the sweat, making your clothes smelly.
Drying tips
The washed clothes should be put on the lines for drying without any delay. The dampness will make the clothes smell bad. If the washed clothes are kept in the washing machine for a long time before drying, they may develop an odour. So, it is better to dry the clothes immediately after they have been washed. Besides, the clothes should be hung on the line without any folds.
Make sure the clothes are dry
Although the clothes might look dry, the thicker parts of it may still be wet. We fold them and keep in the cupboards thinking that the clothes are completely dried. The damp clothes spread a foul smell inside the cupboard as there is no air circulation. So, make sure that all parts of the clothes are nicely dried before folding them and keeping in the cupboard.
Try these hacks
Mix some diluted vinegar in the water used for washing clothes. However, vinegar should not be used on delicate clothes. Besides, pouring vinegar regularly in the washing machine would ruin the machine.
If you find moulds on clothes, it should be removed immediately. You could wash such clothes on a high temperature in washing machine. Use warm water in case you wash them with hands.
Dry the washed clothes in open spaces or in places where there is enough air circulation. Clothes that do not get faded under the sun should be dried in sunlight. Although washed clothes could be dried in spaces that lack air circulation, the rooms might smell bad.
