This charming house named Float and Fold House is in the beautiful countryside of Punnayurkulam in Thrissur, Kerala. The house that stands in a sprawling 27.70 cents has been designed to represent the intimate bond and transparency between the five-member family.
The structure is designed to perfectly suit the tropical weather of Kerala. Interestingly, the owner’s siblings too live close to this house. The elevation is quite simple as the house is concealed behind thick foliage and greenery. A walkway paved with tandoor stones leads to the house from the entrance area.
Designed in 3660 sqft, this amazing mansion has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, courtyards, kitchen with an adjacent work area and five bedrooms.
The main door opens to a spacious area with a double-height ceiling which makes the interiors appear vaster and helps in reducing the heat. Meanwhile, you could enter the outer courtyard with a beautiful waterbody and greenery through the formal living area
The presence of fabulously designed courtyards grants a magical ambience to the interiors. The quaint courtyard in the dining area has been turned into a cosy ladies’ sitting area. Usually, the stair area creates a lot of dead spaces in the house. However, a play area for the kids has been arranged on the first landing of the staircase, thus making it space-efficient.
There is a green courtyard in the master bedroom to block the harsh sunrays coming from the west side. Besides, this room has a separate study area, wardrobes and attached bathrooms too. The kitchen cabinets are done in wood with laminate finish. Meanwhile, quartz has been paved on the countertop.
A living area and study space are arranged on the upper floor. This house impressively materialises the theory of ‘form follows function’ by integrating nature and weather with the needs of the family.
