Ajmal and Sabna wanted their dream abode in Kozhikode, Kerala to stand out from other houses in the neighbourhood. To fulfil their dream, the couple decided to give a unique and fascinating design to the structure. The architect deserves credit for designing such a marvellous house in the plot that lies multiple layers.
From the outside, the elevation looks as if it begins from the landscape and runs upwards until the first floor. The slanting layout of the plot has been smartly incorporated into the design of the house. Interestingly, the lush meadow in the landscape is continued in the slanting façade of the structure.
Even though the house looks like a double storey one, a basement floor too has been added, taking advantage of the multi-layered plot. Meanwhile, the interiors are arranged in seven or eight layers. The idea behind this unique style of designing is to avoid the strain while climbing the stairs. Besides the main entrance door, one could also enter the ground floor through the car porch.

Meanwhile, the upper floor has a bedroom, home theatre and swimming pool. Besides, there are two more bedrooms in the basement.
The interiors have been designed as buffer zones into public, semi-public and private areas. The spaces impress you with its muted colour palette which grants a pleasant ambiance. Moreover, the interiors aren’t stuffed with over-the-top décor.
Furniture that matches the rustic theme of the house has been mostly used here. Glass windows line a wall in the living area, allowing spectacular views of the vibrant greenery outside.
The semi–rustic theme of the interiors is a class apart. Some of the walls don the enchanting elegance of hard rocks while the others exude the rugged charm of cement finish. Meanwhile, matching flooring works perfectly complement these walls, filling the interiors with a positive vibe.
The courtyard with a water body is the soul of the interiors. There are a few sliding doors on various sides of the house that open to the courtyard. The ceiling which is secured with a grille and glass never shies away from welcoming oodles of sunshine into the house.
The dining area and the kitchen are designed in an open theme. From the dining area, one could enter the water courtyard through a sliding glass door. Besides the dining table that can accommodate up to eight persons, there is a quaint breakfast counter at the kitchen entrance. The bedrooms are spacious and have attached bathrooms, inbuilt wardrobes and separate dressing spaces.
The house dons a luxurious ambience when the warm-toned highlighter lights are turned on at night. The family says that people often stop by to see and enjoy the beauty of their dream abode. They are elated that they got a house exactly the way they had imagined.
