The ‘twin’ houses at Keekozhur in Pathanamthitta, Kerala has been drawing attention for their incredible identical features. Interestingly, these houses are owned by siblings Joby and Jiby who are both settled abroad with their families. The brothers wanted to build identical houses as a symbol of their love. A single plan has been used for constructing both houses.
The ancestral house that stood in the 60 cents was pulled down before dividing the plot in equal halves. The plot had become uneven during the deluge in 2018; however, it was raised and levelled before the construction began.
The elevations of the houses feature the contemporary style flat box design. The interiors are simple to make maintenance easier as the families do not live here throughout the year.
Designed in 3100 sqft, the beautiful houses have a car porch, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with an adjacent work area, two bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper floor has two more bedrooms, bathrooms and an open terrace.
The customised furniture pieces exude elegance. The double height ceiling in the formal living area makes the area look incredibly spacious. Moreover, the glass window on the upper wall brings oodles of sunshine into the house. The family living area and the dining space are part of the open hall. There is a glass sliding door here that opens to the yard.
A green courtyard has been arranged close to the bedroom on the ground floor. Beautiful calathea plants adorn the courtyard which is one of the highlights of the house.
The kitchen cabinets are done in marine plywood with laminate finish. Meanwhile, the counter top has been paved with granite.
The families were abroad when the construction was progressing. So, they had mostly relied on video calls and online messaging platforms to oversee the construction. However, one of the brothers visited the sites during the plastering phase. Currently, their old parents live alternatively live in both the houses.
