Dr. Nandakumar and Adv. Shancy’s brand new house at Perinthalmanna celebrates the grand elegance of the traditional architecture. The slanting roof in multiple layers perfectly suits the tropical climate of Kerala. Meanwhile, high-quality Mangalore roofing tiles have been paved on these layers to grant spectacular charm of Kerala’s unique architectural style to the elevation.
The family wanted the inner spaces to receive fresh air and natural light in abundance. Interestingly, eco-friendly materials that could be re-used have been mostly used here. Old teak wood furnishing, exposed brick wall and jali works add to mesmerizing ambience of this house.
The aesthetically designed landscape complements the traditional look of the elevation. The drive way paved with tandoor stones, buffalo grass lawns and the beautiful vines are some of the highlights of the garden area.
Designed in 4300 sqft, this splendid mansion has a car porch, sit out, living and dining areas, courtyard, kitchen with an adjacent work area, four bedrooms, consultation rooms, and multi-purpose room too.
The interiors have been designed as public and private areas in tune with the unique layout of the plot. The formal living area boasts the majestic charm of wooden furnishing.
The courtyard, meanwhile, is the highlight of the interiors. A breathing wall built in laterite stones, with small holes on them, is an interesting feature. The floor is paved with round and shiny pebbles, skylight roof in GI and glass finish and the green vines that grow on the GI grille make the courtyard a haven of tranquillity.
The dining area is spacious and faces the courtyard. The golden sun rays and the cool breeze from the courtyard flow into the dining area if the folding glass doors are open. The simple dining table has a bench on one side.
The staircase has wooden planks as steps. Meanwhile, coir rope has been arranged on GI handles as the hand railings, adding a rustic charm to this area.
The luxury of exquisite timber furnishing makes the bedrooms stand out. Some bedrooms open to the fabulous views of the inner courtyard. So, these rooms are always filled with natural light and air.
The kitchen is compact yet has all the facilities. The sturdy cabinets are done in timber, granting a classy look to the kitchen area. Chairs are arranged on one side of the countertop, making it a quaint breakfast spot too.
The friends and relatives of the family are showering praises for building such a beautiful dwelling that shows - off the unique features of the traditional architecture, in all its glory.
