When Abhishek decided to build his dream abode in the 5 cents plot at Thirumala in Thiruvananthapuram, he was a bit concerned about the spatial limitations. After leaving the mandatory ‘set back’, the structure had to be constructed in just 4 cents. However, a smartly drawn plan came to his rescue; and now stands a fabulous double storey house here. The car porch is spacious enough to accommodate two cars. The motorised sliding gate, meanwhile, saves space in the front. Besides this, there is a wicket gate too.
Abhishek works at the ISRO. Even though the plot was smaller, the family had great dreams about their abode. The architect deserves credit for coming up with such intelligent designs and features to cater to the needs and interests of the family members.
Designed in 1900 sqft, this splendid abode has a sit out, living and dining areas, courtyard, study area, kitchen with an adjacent work area, four bedrooms, upper living area and a balcony.
The entrance door opens to an ‘L’ shaped hall. The living and the dining areas have been separated here. Vitrified tiles are paved on the floor. Meanwhile, the custom-made furniture perfectly complements the general theme of the house. The area beneath the stairway has been turned into a study space, making the interiors space efficient. The circular design of the hand railings at the beginning of the stairway is quite interesting.
The owner wished to have a green courtyard inside the house. However, the spatial limitations had posed a challenge. So, instead of a courtyard, a charming patio space has been separated beside the dining area by increasing the height of the compound wall on this side. A cement statue of Lord Krishna adorns this beautiful spot, filling it with incredible grace and ambience.
The closed kitchen ensures enough privacy, with a glass wall separating the kitchen and the hall. A TV unit has been arranged in the dining area. From the kitchen, one could grab a view of the dining hall or watch the TV through the glass wall. Meanwhile, the designer wash basin and the decorative mirror instantly grabs attention.
The kitchen cabinets are done in marine ply with laminate finish. The counter top, meanwhile, has been paved with Korean stone. The wall beside the dining area is decorated with attractive wall paper and is highlighted with profile lighting.
The bedrooms are spacious and are designed on unique themes. The bath attached bedrooms have separate dressing spaces and walk – in – wardrobes.
When the construction of the structure was almost finished, the family felt that the open terrace didn’t go well with the classy design of the elevation. So, the terrace has been turned into a gazebo balcony by installing GI truss and glass roofing. The designer metal art wall is the highlight here, granting an elegant ambience. A quaint coffee table completes this perfect hang out spot.
The construction of the beautiful house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a budget of Rs 55 lakh. The family’s friends and relatives are in awe of this fabulous house that hardly looks like it has been built on a 5 cents plot.
