Spatial limitations and the overcrowding of high rises are often cited as the major challenges when it comes to building homes in congested urban areas. However, Sachin and Rosina’s brand–new house in the busy town of Palarivattam in Ernakulam overcomes these challenges, pretty seamlessly, with its interesting designs and fabulous features.

The family wanted a simple yet elegant house in the 9.2 cents plot that they own in the heart of the city. A narrow lane is what leads to the plot. So, the structure was built by leaving enough space in the front to navigate and park the vehicles comfortably.

The brick claddings on the elevation add the perfect contrast against the monotony of the white hue. Meanwhile, the sloping roof in multiple layers grants a chicness to the elevation.

Designed in 2985 sqft, this amazing abode has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with work area and five bedrooms.

The interiors have been designed in an open style to ensure vast spaces. The entrance door opens to the elegantly furnished formal living area. There is a beautiful courtyard right beside this area. Interestingly, this courtyard is what separates the formal living area from the family living-dining areas.

The family living area is arranged in the ‘sunken’ style, which is a few feet below the floor level. The exquisite Moroccan tile paved flooring works is the highlight here. The dining area, meanwhile, has been arranged in the centre of the spacious hall. This area is highlighted with classy wooden tiles.

The folding glass doors near the dining area opens to the quaint yard. The tall wall decorated with cladding works on this side of the plot ensures privacy too. These doors could be opened to welcome natural sunshine and cool breeze into the house during the daytime. So, there is no need to switch on the lights and fans inside the house during the day.

The use of expensive timber for furnishing is minimal in this house. Most of the windows are done in UPVC. Meanwhile, the doors inside the house are made in plywood. The simple stairway doesn’t take too much space. The hand railings designed in the shape of stainless-steel strands are an interesting pattern. The area beneath the stairway has been turned into a study area.

There are two bedrooms on the ground floor while three are on the upper floor. The bedrooms are minimal yet have all the required facilities. The bath attached bedrooms have cots and – wardrobes for storage.

The kitchen has been designed in a closed style as the family wanted privacy in this area. The compact kitchen has everything arranged within the hand’s reach. Meanwhile, the cupboards are done in laminated plywood.

The walls of this splendid abode are adorned with some beautiful pictures clicked by the owner and hand-drawn paintings done by the couple’s children. Meanwhile, the family vows that they could feel positive vibes emanating from the elegant spaces of their dream dwelling.
