Anyone stepping into Balan Vadakedath's new house at Payyannur in Kerala’s northern district of Kannur would be impressed by the richness of the all-white tone in the elevation that lifts the aesthetics of the structure to a higher plank. Kudos to architects Dedeev Vijayan and his wife Ramya Dedeev who have designed the house in contemporary style keeping in mind the lifestyle and background of the family members. At the same time they never compromised on the Vasstu principles too. The interiors are planned as a continuation of the well-defined exterior geometrical facade with perpendicular formations.
The double-storeyed house spread across 3,500 sq ft has a sit-out, foyer, formal-cum-family living space, dining room, courtyard, kitchen, work area, four bedrooms, upper living area, library, a balcony and an open terrace.
The whole inner space is divided into three zones - the public area at the southern side, the central region that comprises dining area and hall, and lastly a private area that houses kitchen and bedrooms at the northern end.
The interior furnishings boast of the elegance of teak, marine ply and veneer plywood. A sleek wooden-cum-metallic staircase with glass railings, which nestles between the family living space and dining zone, sports an impressive look. It is noteworthy that an exhaustive storage unit fits cosily beneath the stairway. Another highlight is the inner courtyard attached to the dining area.
The stair leads to a passage on the first floor that directs to an upper living area, balcony and two bedrooms.
The kitchen gives a stress-free look and incorporates effective and efficient use of storage hacks. Another perk is that one can have direct access to the utility area and laundry space from the kitchen.
Simplicity is the signature of this abode that has been designed to drench the spacious interiors with fresh air and natural light.
