Koshy George’s brand new house at Kanjirappally in Kottayam, Kerala, is a fine example of a beautiful single storey house with all the amenities of a spacious abode that is built on two floors. The owner who is an expatriate decided to build a single-storey house as he realized that double floors could become a burden, especially in families where there are aged parents.

This fabulous abode amazingly blends the unique features of traditional architectural style with modern amenities. The truss roof paved with mud tiles exudes the elegant chant of Keralite architecture. The backside of the house, meanwhile, has a flat roof. As the plot is vaster, an aesthetically designed landscape too has been built to complement the overall look of the house. A stone-paved driveway from the gate leads to the porch. The verdant lawns and the amazing highlighter lights add to the enchanting look of the house.

The house, designed in 3200 sqft has a sit out, formal and family living areas, courtyard, dining space, kitchen with a work area and four bedrooms. The open interiors make communication easier between spaces. Besides, the vast spaces are extremely airy and comfortable. Unique pieces of furniture that blend well with the general theme of the house are really eye-catching. Meanwhile, natural Kota stones have been paved on the floor, granting a rustic charm to the interiors.

The spaces are arranged around the mesmerizing courtyard. Designed in around 350 sqft, the courtyard is the soul of the house. Interestingly, this courtyard is designed as a replica of the fabulous nature outside. The skylight ceiling, meanwhile, brings lots of natural sunshine and air into the interiors.

Beautiful indoor plants and shiny pebbles are used to decorate the courtyard floor. The sunlight that comes in through the glass windows on the ceiling illuminates the area surrounding the courtyard. So, there is no need to switch on lights during the day.

The bedrooms are spacious and have attached bathrooms, in–built wardrobes, dressing spaces and study areas.

The kitchen cabinets are done in teak wood with a stainless steel finish. Meanwhile, nano white has been paved on the countertop. A quaint breakfast counter and a very functional work area too are part of the kitchen.

The house is mostly run on electricity produced by the solar panels that are installed on the roof. Meanwhile, the rainwater that falls on the roof is collected in tanks and is used for well recharging. The automated waste disposal system is a brilliant addition that makes this house extremely environmental friendly.

Architect MM Jose who designed this spectacular house is a close relative of the owner. So, communication and exchange of ideas were easier. The owner and his family are joyous that they could fulfill the dream of owning a beautiful house in their hometown.
