Bijesh’s mesmerizing abode at Nellikuzhi near Kothamangalam in Kerala is the perfect example of an old and ordinary house that has been given a stunning makeover to suite the modern times. The old house which was a single storey structure was built in 1350 sqft area. The decade old house had space constraints, leakages and lack of adequate supply of natural light and air.
Sloped roof in multiple layers is the highlight of the exteriors. This feature enhances the chic contemporary style of the house. The front yard is paved with natural stones and grass. Meanwhile, the natural stone cladding on the gate and the pillars in the sit out adds a touch a grand elegance.
The interiors have been rearranged into semi open space by knocking down redundant walls. Adjacent spaces have been joined to make spacious and vaster areas. The car porch is a latest addition to the structure.
The house now has a car porch, sit out, living area, dining space, pooja space, kitchen with work area and three bedrooms on the ground floor while there is an upper hall, study area and balcony in the upper storey. The renovated structure, with its newly added features, is 2780 sqft in area.
The TV unit is arranged in the formal living area. Louver designs in GI tubes have been used as partitions here. These partitions are decorated with beautiful indoor plants, adding a hint of fresh greenery. The furniture pieces made in steel and plywood finish are simple yet elegant.
The dining table design has bench on one side. The fabulous furniture is made by pasting plywood on steel frame. Interestingly, storage spaces have been arranged as part of the wash area to make the house more space efficient. The pooja space is separated by installing a cladding wall between the dining area and the stairway.
Besides making the bedrooms spacious, attached bathrooms too have been newly added. The rooms are renovated by giving prime significance to storage spaces. The full length wardrobes are the highlights here.
The kitchen cabinets are done in multi wood with veneer finish. The counter top, meanwhile, is paved with granite. A quaint breakfast table and an adjacent work area complete the kitchen space.
The balcony of this amazingly transformed house has been turned into a haven of greenery. One could enter the balcony from the upper living area through a glass sliding door. These spaces could be easily turned into a spacious hall if this glass door is opened.
Bijesh and his family are joyous that their house got a dream makeover. They say that their guests often wonder at the unbelievable transformation of their old house into a stylish and modern abode. The interiors, now, exude positive vibes. The spectacular features of this renovated dwelling are truly a treat to the hearts and the eyes.
