Biju, a native of Vadakara in Koothattukulam, Kerala, his wife Kochumol and their only son Monu had moved to Kottayam, years ago, owing to the former’s job. The family shares a close bond with their ancestral home and has always wished to build a house of their own, closer to the ancestral home. It was last year that Biju and his family finally decided to construct their dream abode. They wanted a small yet comfortable single storey house and entrusted noted architect Sreekanth Pangapad to prepare the plan. Moreover, they wanted to build their new house without burning a hole in their pocket. Sreekanth who has designed countless beautiful homes across the state came up with an incredible plan that instantly enthused the family.
Though the house faces the east, the main road is on the south side of the house. So, the elevation at both these sides has been designed amazingly to grant unique views from outside. Even though the construction got delayed due to the floods in 2019 and the pandemic situation, Biju and his family are thrilled that they could move into the safety of their brand new house.
Designed in 1700 sqft, this fabulous abode has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, prayer area, kitchen with an adjacent work area and three bedrooms. The house is a fine example of a utility home made on a medium budget.
Interestingly, a truss roof in GI is installed on the flat roof structure. A stairway is arranged outside to reach this area that has been turned into a utility area. The walls on either side of the dining hall are lined with long windows to ensure amazing air circulation.
Biju and his family are joyous that they got the house of their dreams even though they had to wait quite a bit to fulfil it.
