It is a common practice to cut down trees in the plot while constructing a brand new house. However, this beautiful house in Coimbatore is a fine example of an eco-friendly abode that is in sync with nature. Designed by noted architect Srikrishnan, this house is chic and has all the modern amenities.
The owner had just one demand to the architect that the mango tree in the plot shouldn’t be cut down. This tree house became a reality when the architect too agreed to the owner’s demand. The house features traditional architectural forms and styles and locally sourced materials as well.
Though the house looks a single storey building from the outside, it has two floors. The compound wall, car porch and the exterior walls are built in multiple levels. The slanted structure helps in making the house look shorter in height. Porotherm bricks have been used to build the structure of the house. This grants a rustic look to the exteriors. The car porch, meanwhile, is built using GI frames. The structure of the porch could be used as a medium to grow creepers as well.
Designed in 2000 sqft, this fabulous house stands on a 5.5 cents plot. There is a car porch, corridor, courtyard, living and dining areas, stairway, kitchen and two bedrooms in the ground floor. Meanwhile, there is a bedroom, upper living area, balcony, bridge and terrace in the upper floor. Natural stones are paved on the car porch and the front yard. Granite is paved on the floor in the sit out.
The interior spaces are designed around the mango tree and the courtyard. The courtyard is decorated with pebbles, beautiful indoor plants and outdoor furniture as well. GI pergola is installed on the ceiling of the courtyard. The dining area is at the end of the corridor. The living area is a few feet below the rest of the house. Natural stones are paved on the floor in the house.
A stylish cantilever stairway is what connects both the floors. The most amazing advantage of this stairway is that it could be built on a low budget. The kitchen is arranged below the stairway. The smartly designed kitchen is compact and space efficient.
The three bedrooms are arranged in both the floors. The bedrooms are minimally furnished. A bridge is what connects the upper living area and the terrace.
The roofing is done in the traditional Madras terrace roofing method. Interestingly, this type of roofing is easier to install. Local materials, exquisite design features and eco friendly structure are what make this splendid house an exemplary one.
